Brain Teasers

Page history last edited by Alex 13 years ago

Read out loud the text inside the triangle below.

More than likely you said, 'A bird in the bush,'! And...
If this IS what YOU said, then you failed to see
That the word THE is repeated twice!
Sorry, look again.

Next, let's play with some words. What do you see?

You may not see it at first, but the white spaces read the word optical, the blue landscape reads the word illusion. Look again! Can you see why this painting is called an optical illusion?

What do you see?

In black you can read the word GOOD, in white the word EVIL
(inside each black letter is a white letter).  Now, what do you see?

 What do you see here?

 This one is really tricky!

The word TEACH reflects as LEARN.

Last one.What do you see?

You probably read the word ME in brown, but........

When you look through ME you will read the word YOU!
Do you need to look again?

Test your brain. This is really cool!

 ALZHEIMERS' EYE TEST

Count every ' F ' in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...
(SEE BELOW)

HOW MANY ?
WRONG, THERE ARE
6 -- no joke.
READ IT AGAIN !
Really, go Back and Try to find the 6 F's before you scroll down. The reasoning behind is further down. The brain cannot process 'OF'.

Incredible or what? Go back and look again!!
Anyone who counts all 6 'F's' on the first go is a genius.
Three is normal, four is quite rare.

More Brain Stuff. . .  From Cambridge University
Olny srmat poelpe can raed this.I cdnuolt blveiee that I cluod aulaclty   uesdnatnrd what I was rdanieg. The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig   to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in what oredr the ltteers in a word are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is that the first and last ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can still raed it wouthit a porbelm.  This is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the word as a wlohe. Amzanig huh? Yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt! If you can raed this psas it on   !!

Translation:

Only smart people can read this. I couldn't believe I could actually understand what I was reading. The phenomenal power of the human mind, according to a research at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place. The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without a problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole. Amazing huh? Yeah and I always thought spelling was important! If you can read this pass it on!!

This hurts my eyes! Dosen't it look like its moving?!?!? Its really not.

SO Cool!

Look around on this image and see how incredible the effect is. You computer screen will seem to be waving and rippling like the ocean.

This Picture is NOT MOVING!! Can you believe that???

This is a great illusion ! Look at the black dot in the middle and move you head forward and backward. You will see both circles rotating in different directions ! How does it work ? If you move further away, the circles will become smaller for you. This means, from your point of view, every symbol moves inwards, and their slanted edge give the impression of circumferential motion. If the edges are not slanted enough, the illusion doesn't work near as good.

Is the pie of cheese cut out, or does it lie in front ? Hmmm.....

One of the better fake illusions. Look intensely at this picture for twenty seconds and you will recognize a giraffe ... LOL!

A lot of illusions are caused by the processing in the brain. Take this simple animation below for example : does the wheel turn left or right ? You can make it turn in any direction you want, just by thinking of it. It may help to look at the edges : look at the left edge and it turns left ...

How does it work ? This wheel is not turning left or right. It consists of just two different frames, there is no "direction" involved. But your brain thinks : "It's moving, it's a wheel, so it must be turning in some direction, right" ? It just makes up the missing frames on its own.

Try to say the color of the words, instead of actually reading them. You will find it surprisingly difficult. The right half of your brain is trying to say the colors, the left half is trying to say the word itself. And the Nederlands part, was just a part of the picture. I couldn't erase it, but is teaches you how to say colors in that language! Pretty cool!

This image, resembling a wooden door or something, contains sixteen perfect circles. Stare at the white x in the middle for a while, and they will suddenly pop out. The first time I read the description of the illusion I couldn't believe it. Perfect circles in a picture with only straight lines? But it's true, see for yourself.

Look at the cute little boy on the right side. He's shown in two different colors, right ? Now gaze at the left plus sign for 20 seconds, then look at the right plus sign. The image is looking normal now ! Ain't it incredible ? This phenomenon is called chromatic adaptation. Your eyes adjust themselves to the overload of colors. When you look at the right, your eyes are still filtering out the cyan and yellow. For a while.

This appears to be a set of meaningless black blocks, but it's actually a word you can read. What word could that be ?

Read the text aloud. Read it again. What have you read ? Are you sure that's right ?

This is a fantastic illusion ! Stare at the cross in the center and you will see a series of events :

  • A circle of purple spots, one spot disappears clockwise.
  • A circle of purple spots, one spot turns green clockwise.
  • THE GREEN SPOT EATS THE PURPLE ONES !.
  • Only the green spot remains, circling around the cross.

This one also looks like its moving. It makes you feel kinda dizzy when you stare at the blue circle in the middle.

This is 4 the Harry Potter Fans!

A very astounding design. Not only because the words Harry Potter can be turned upside down, but also because the font is a bit reminiscent of the original one. They should put this on the cover of the next book (If there is one!)

Are you color blind?

If you see a three on the left and the number 73 on the right, you're just fine. But if you see a five on the left, and just a bunch of spots on the right ... you may be color blind. Oh No!!!!

Find your blind spot

So I just said your eyes are not perfect. Allow me to demonstrate. Look at the image below. Since the squirrel doesn't trust the all-too-friendly smile of the boy, he wants to get out. Let's make him disappear ! Close your left eye, then look at the boy (probably with your right eye). Slowly decrease (or increase) the distance to the screen until ... the squirrel is gone !

Whoa ! Seems you DO have a blind spot, and it's large, too ! There is a certain spot in the back of your eye where you can't see. It's where the optical nerves ("wiring and cables") enter the eye.
This is also a brain illusion. Think about this : do you see a huge floating gap everywhere you look ? No ? But you just learned you have a blind spot so ... your mind just guesses what should be there and shows it to you !
